The children and young people we work with will face even more difficult challenges than we did growing up. I see my dear brother Benny in them. He had his whole life in front of him yet was taken suddenly in a drunk car racing accident. He was not the driver. I see James, Michael, Tim, Jeff and Kevin through them; my childhood friends who got caught up in drugs and the dangers of the street. They all died too soon and too young. Some mentors and staff of Children are the Greatest (CG) like myself have similar experiences growing up but have been able to turn things around and now meet the youth where they are at. CG mentors are able to connect to young people quickly eliminating the barriers faced by traditional service providers in engaging at-risk youth. We provide support systems that model for young people the steps necessary to create change and share about the value of second chances. Along with my own story of challenges growing up I have 20 years experience in the non-profit sector working with children and youth.
